ANIMAL IDIOMS I

Os provérbios fazem parte de qualquer idioma, refletem a sabedoria, a moral, a visão tradicional de uma sociedade e são passados de geração em geração.  Um Provérbio nada mais é do que um ditado popular. Segue abaixo uma pequena lista de provérbios em inglês que trazem animais, com seus equivalentes em português.

1)"A bird in hand is worth two in the bush”= Something that one already has is better than going after something which seems more worthwhile but not certain.=  A friend of mine wants to quit her job before getting another one. I told her not to do that because I think that ‘a bird in hand is worth two in the bush.”É melhor um pássaro na mão do que dois voando.”

2)Barking dogs seldom bite=Those who make loud threats seldom carry them out. e.g Don’t be afraid of dogs that bark or people that threaten you because they rarely take action. = “Cão que ladra não morde.”

3)”Don’t count your chickens before they are hatched".=Do not make plans based on something that has not happened. Jane was sure her boss would give her a rise , so she decided to book an expensive holiday. I told her not to count her chickens before they’re hatched. “Não conte vitória antes do tempo”, ou o popular “Não conte com o ovo no cu da galinha

4)"A leopard cannot change its spots"=A person's nature cannot change.= e.g Honestly, I don’t think that your boyfriend will change after marriage, after all a leopard does’t change its spots. “Pau que nasce torto morre torto”.

5)"Put the cart before the horse”= Do something in an incorrect order.e.g I think buying a ticket before we make any plans is putting the cart before the horse.= "Colocar o carro na frente dos bois.”
